VIDEO: Nicki Minaj Diss by Keys

YAS, Spartans, Barbies, and onlookers alike, the official Nicki Minaj Diss video by Keys has officially been dropped. And even though I said I would leave this word in the past decade, in special circumstances I must pull it out: this video has so much SWAG!! Like it’s nothing but realness. There’s no elaborate hair, no crazy wardrobe, hunni even the make-up is even done in a very bare essentials type manner. It immediately shows the difference between the artist Keys is and the one that Nicki has molded herself into. And the video can’t be too much o f a flop, as of 30 minutes ago it was at 221,000+ views.

Keys vs Nicki Minaj

I know I’m a little late with this but… tell me that Keys didn’t just rip NIcki and all of her barbie friends to pieces? A Baltimore native Keys is coming for Nicki, obviously and is setting herself up as a “real” artist. She represents real people and all that jazz… as you can tell on her other tracks that have leaked from her upcoming mixtape. Whereas I really and truly don’t think that the shot should be an effective one because Nicki came into the game from the jump stating that it was all about branding, I feel like Keys has that fire that Nicki had when I first heard those first couple of mixtapes. Oh and she imitated the flow to a T, added her own spin and SLAYED my favorite barbie. If you like what you heard above get the download link along with two other tracks that leaked from her mixtape below. I also discuss the pros and cons of the artists.

The Tea on the Barbie

Ohkay… this post has been a minute coming. While I had been theorizing before, on December 7 I decided it had to made and went to do research. Then I got wrapped up in work but with Lil Kim stepping into the ring and drawing the line it’s time to dish. First let’s examine some pieces of evidence 🙂
Prosecution Item 1

Prosecutions Item 2

While I don’t condone using the word swag anymore, it’s going in the graveyard for 2010, I had to whip it out for this occasion. Nicki and her “barbies”, defined by some as “Broke *ss Retarded B*tch*s Imitating Everyones Swag“, seem to be.. only imitators. Of course the Barbies are biting off of Nicki who is in turn biting off of…well a bit of everyone.

Our Item 1 is a picture of the artist Tokyo Diiva(@tokyodiiva) from what I believe is last year, paired up beside Nicki. Tokyo was known for this style before Nicki jumped on the style and has maintained it well. While she says that she’s moving onto another style for 2010 everyone knows that Nicki is seemingly biting Tokyo… and HARD! They aren’t in the same genre really but*shrug* a bite is a bite. Check out an interview with Tokyo here.
Onto the next thing though. The artist that you may know: Lil Kim. Now according to Young, Black and Fabulous, our item 2 became the profile picture of Lil Kim’s Facebook page. I search for Lil Kim’s page and I found a couple but none of them had this as the profile picture. I obtained the picture the same day that Nicki went on 106andPark and wore those hideous A-Morir shades with a corset that resembled a 4 year old, “Sleeping Beauty” inspired arts and crafts project(yeah I was heated when I peeped that).
Anyways I have presented the case, negating any swagga jacking based on the woman’s flow or her nick names, you can do the research for that on your own… make sure you peep that T Magazine article(which is apart of NY Times) when you do. I want you to be the jury though 🙂

But maybe this is all the rave now… I mean Rihanna is biting Kelis… Don’t know what that’s about?? Peep this:

Nikki v. Nicki??

It Just Dawned on Me…I Like Nicki Minaj

So after 3 encounters with this chick Nicki Minaj I finally gave in and gave her a real listen. All before I would hear her and think well she’s good but not that great, another wanna be female rapper that won’t make it. Harsh I know but with the lack of big time female rappers today it’s hard to take some of these females seriously. So after hearing a few tracks from her most recent mixtape Beam Me Up Scotty, I realized this girl really has skills. Not only that but she has big a personality too.

She’s a graduate of a performing arts school where she focused on singing and acting, but started rapping to set herself apart from other singers. She gained some attention after appearing on a dvd featuring up and coming rappers, where Lil Wayne spotted her. From there he got in touch with her and they recorded a few records together for her first mixtape Play Time Is Over. Since then she has released two other mixtapes titled Sucka Free(image search the infamous cover which pays homage to Lil Kim) and most recently Beam Me Up Scotty. She has also collaborated with numerous artist such as Gucci Mane, Tierra Marie, Bow Wow, and Lil Wayne of course, just to name a few. Right now the 25 year old is performing on Lil Wayne’s America’s Most Wanted Tour and working on releasing an official studio album.

Now as for the reasons why I think you should give this girl a chance and listen to her music, I have many. First of all she stands out, she’s unique! She’s doesn’t have a one sided persona. She can do the sex driven lyrics, or the hardcore I might just commit some violence lyrics, or the deep emotional lyrics of difficult events of her life or just some fun catchy lyrics that make you laugh. Whatever you’re into. Hate rapping? No problem she sings too. Most importantly the chick writes her own material. Her rhymes are good, a friend of mine even equates her to being a female version of Lil Wayne. Also she may have the look of a video vixen but she’s no sex object. She demands respect in the rap field and will tell you with a quickness that she would not dare sleep with a rapper and risk her reputation or career. With only mixtapes so far under her belt or in her case tutu, she has a hardcore following of fans(aka her Harajuku Barbies and Harajuku Kens). Most importantly Nicki has a positive energy about her. Her outlook is that female rappers should support each other rather than engaging in the rap beefs. She feels that with the lack of female rappers, the success of one female in the industry should be celebrated by other females because that just means another door opening for them. Right now I see many doors opening in Nicki’s future and I genuinely hope she makes it.

Now this is a song you gotta hear. She spits pure fire. It’s also the song that made me a Nicki fan:
