Title: Predators
Well, we recently did a soft launch of 803 Pipeline and their, we briefly mentioned that it seems as if Baptiste Giabiconi may be getting edged out of his leading male role with Karl Lagerfeld. This stemmed from rumors that Baptiste will not appear in the next campaign for Chanel, and that instead, Brad Kroenig will appear. Well with his closing of the Chanel Couture show and this new editorial appearing in Numero Homme 19, Baptiste shows that he’s not going down without a fight.

This editorial, entitled Predators, has so many of my favorite aspects in it. For one, I love a good black and white photo. When done right, like this one, it can create a very brooding mood. Well, then again Baptiste comes off as brooding because of the black and white plus the excessive eye makeup. But pompadours as well are a favorite of mine. As long as it doesn’t seem to be an over sized helmet, a pompadour can work wonders for one’s personal style(assuming one has enough hair in the first place). The up-do injects yet another air of sophistication into the shoot.
Maybe it was on purpose but as I stare at this editorial more and more, Baptiste just becomes an anomaly. From the eye makeup, to the emotion that he portrays…and well lastly to his gender, Baptiste kind of just doesn’t fit in my opinion. Karl’s infatuation with him is duly noted but sometimes one has to know when there are people yelling “Uncle Karl, drop the camera, and step away from the model. Step away from the model uncle Karl!”
